You want to be able to access the contents of your single gun safe when you need, especially if there is an emergency but at the same time, you don’t want it so accessible that someone else can get into it. You may also want to think about looking at single gun safes that are fire and/or water-resistant as well.
Do You Need One?
It is surprising how many people still question whether they need a safe or not because they only have one gun. Single gun safes are just as important and serve the same purpose as those that store dozen of firearms.
The first thing that you should learn if you are going to own a firearm is a lesson in gun safety. These types of safes don’t only protect you and those in your home, they prevent your gun from getting in the wrong hands. If someone broke into your home whether you were there or not, how easy would your gun to be to steal? What if there was a fire? Even if you were at home, there is little chance that your gun and ammunition are going to be things that you would think about grabbing on your way out the door.
Many people think that they don’t need single gun safes because they live in a quiet neighborhood where nothing ever happens. You may be interested to learn that the FBI suggests that there is an annual average of 341,000 firearms stolen from private citizens ever year. No one is exempt! Not only that, if you have an heirloom gun, doesn’t it just make sense to protect it? This is something that can never be replaced.
It should also be noted that the vast majority of firearms that are stolen from a residence are used for a crime. In fact, experts believe that 30 percent of crimes that involve a firearm are weapons that have been stolen. A startling number of individuals didn’t even know that their gun was missing!
Think you don’t need a single gun safe because you have a home alarm? Thieves know that on average, they have six minutes to grab what they can and slip out before there is a response to the alarm and that’s in the suburbs. Unfortunately, urban communities have a much longer average response time. This is plenty time to steal your weapon and other valuables and be out the door.
Single gun safes are an essential in any home with a firearm. Even if you have a traditional safe, many people find it comforting to keep an extra weapon in a small safe hidden somewhere else.
